September is Suicide Prevention Month, as designated by the U.S. Army. As part of our ongoing efforts to support and educate veterans and their families, the Alabama Veterans Memorial Foundation is hosting a free Suicide Awareness and Prevention Seminar.

The session will be led by an experienced counselor from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Birmingham.

Who Should Attend?
This seminar is open to veterans, families, and the general public—anyone interested in learning how to support those who may be struggling.

No registration is required, and complimentary snacks and refreshments will be provided.

1st Annual Alabama Veterans Brew Fest

Saturday, July 30, 2016 | 12:00 – 6:00 PM
Avondale Brewery

Support local veterans at Avondale Brewery with an afternoon of live music, raffles, and great beer.

  • Live music and raffles from 3:00 – 6:00 PM
  • Raffle tickets available for $5 each (sold at the event)
  • 10% of the day’s sales and all raffle proceeds will benefit the Alabama Veterans Memorial Foundation

Additional donations will be welcomed and appreciated at the event.


Free One-on-One Financial Counseling for Veterans

In partnership with the Financial Planning Association of Birmingham (FPA), the Alabama Veterans Memorial Park is offering free one-on-one financial counseling sessions for veterans, current service members, and their families.

  • Wednesday, June 22 – 3:00 PM & 4:00 PM
  • Wednesday, July 20 – 3:00 PM & 4:00 PM

Memorial Day Remembrance

The Alabama Veterans Memorial Park, in partnership with the Boy Scouts of the Greater Alabama Council, will host a special Memorial Day Remembrance event.

Schedule of Events:
1:00 PM – 3:30 PM

  • Blue Star Salute Foundation’s Exhibit: Faces of the Price of Freedom (Parking Lot)

1:00 PM – 2:00 PM

  • Patriotic music by the Bob Moore Band (Near Memorial Plaza)

2:00 PM – 3:30 PM

  • StepStone Dedication Ceremony (American Flag Plaza)
  • Boy Scout Color Guard
  • National Anthem by Stephanie Whatley-Farmer
  • Echo Taps by Bugles Across America
  • StepStone dedications by family and friends

This session will be conducted by experienced counselors from The Vet Center, a subsidiary of the Department of Veterans Affairs. Their local office is located in Hoover.

This event is open to veterans, families, and the general public. No registration is required, and refreshments will be provided.
