Alabama Veterans Memorial Park

In partnership with the Boy Scouts of the Greater Alabama Council, the Alabama Veterans Memorial Park honored veterans through a special Memorial Day Remembrance event.


Schedule of Events

1:00 PM – 3:30 PM

  • Blue Star Salute Foundation’s ExhibitFaces of the Price of Freedom (Located in the parking lot)

1:00 PM – 2:00 PM

  • Live Patriotic Music by the Bob Moore Band (Near the Memorial Plaza)

2:00 PM – 3:30 PM – StepStone Dedication Ceremony (American Flag Plaza)

  • Boy Scout Color Guard Presentation
  • National Anthem performed by Stephanie Whatley-Farmer
  • Echo Taps played by Bugles Across America
  • StepStone Dedications – Honorees recognized by family and friends

StepStone Dedication Ceremony

Honoring Those Who Have Served Our Country

On Sunday, May 28, 2016, the Alabama Veterans Memorial Foundation, in partnership with the Vulcan District Boy Scouts, held the annual Remembrance Ceremony at 1:00 PM to honor veterans. The Vulcan District Boy Scouts recognized those who have been added to the Honor List of Alabama’s Deceased since May 2016.

The Foundation also dedicated StepStones to over forty veterans, both living and deceased, from across the United States. The StepStone Dedication Ceremony took place at 2:00 PM.

Tributes & Memorials

The event featured several meaningful tributes, including:

  • Blue Star Salute Foundation’s Memorial Exhibit, Faces of the Price of Freedom, showcasing the faces of Alabama’s fallen heroes since September 11, 2001.
  • Memorial Trail, Memorial Plaza, and Hall of Honor, recognizing the service and sacrifice of veterans.

During the ceremony:

  • SFC (Ret) Stephanie Whatley-Farmer performed the National Anthem.
  • Bugles Across America played Echo Taps.
  • Family and friends dedicated StepStones in honor of their loved ones.

Guest Speakers

The ceremony included remarks from distinguished guests:

  • Admiral Clyde Marsh, Commissioner of the Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs.
  • Senator Luther Strange, who addressed the audience with a tribute to those who have served.
